CrossFit is constantly varied, functional movement, done at high intensity. Founded by Greg Glassman, CrossFit has revolutionize fitness. The methods and workouts that are used in the programming we offer have changed countless lives. Should everyone be doing CrossFit? In a word...YES! Is it for everyone....unfortunately no it's not. The main reason people have limited success is that CrossFit requires a lifestyle change and most people, regardless of their desire can't make those changes. However, if you can great things await you in the world of CrossFit. For more information about CrossFit click here.
What are some of the things you can expect at CrossFit Uvalde?
For starters, you never know what the WOD will be from day to day. CrossFit Coaches use a mixed bag of movements from the Track and Field , Gymnastics, Olympic Lifts, Power Lifts, and Monostructural activities. These movements are combined in as many ways as possible to never specialize in any one area. You may be a better runner than me but chances are your not going to be as good at the weight lifting or gymnastics as I am. What this randomness translates to is a higher quality of life, and being in overall better condition to face whatever life throws your way.
These workouts are hard, but they are scalable to each individual's fitness level. A training effect can be achieved with a barbell or a piece of PVC pipe, the intensity is relative.
Coaching-you get a trainer without having to pay a high hourly price. For more info on personal training click here .
Community-we have a great community, we know your name and really do care about you. We have general policies but never lose the ability to talk to you on an individual basis. In other words, we know that life happens and we are not going to put dollars before our relationship with you.
Accountability-we are here everyday and we expect you to be as well. There is more to success than just putting your head down and going full throttle until you burn out, no one knows this more than I do. You have to be smarter than that. Rest, nutrition, comittment are all just as important to you realizing your goals as the workouts are. The 23 hours that you are not in the gym can mess you up more than the 1 hour of training can repair. Be accountable to yourself and to the community. Don't get in the habit of skipping workouts, do them all and whatever you dislike the most is where you should spend most of your time....that is where you are going to find the biggest improvements.
Safety and equipment- we have a safe enviroment to do the WOD. CrossFit Uvalde has every piece of equipment needed to do the WODs as prescribed. Rowing in the Wod, we got it covered, Oly lifting, we can coach it and do it.
Trainers and scheduling- classes are offered in the mornings and evenings. Click here for a schedule. Class sizes are limited though. The trainers at CrossFit Uvalde are selected from our clients. They have been here and shown a tremendous ability to perform the skills and not skip any workouts. Not only are they capable athletes but have shown a desire and ability to help and coach others. There is a grueling internship require at their expense, so whenever you work with a Trainer/Coach from CrossFit Uvalde you know that they have paid a high price to work with you and have a very high standard expected of them. For more info on our trainers click here.
In order to join a CrossFit Class you have to pass a skills assessment. The requirements for beginners are to enroll in the "I Am CrossFit" program. After successfully completing that program you may test with a CrossFit Uvalde Coach to see if you can perform the skills required to do the WODs in our workouts. If you are a CrossFit veteran or feel like you have the skill required for the full program then you may test with a CrossFit Uvalde Coach to assess your ability. The purpose is to give you the best training you require to achieve the highest possible outcome. Personal training rates apply for testing, which will last approximately 1 hour.
Skills that you must show some apptitude in before you can join the full CrossFit program.
All movements will be done with PVC pipe, remember the weight doesn't matter as much as the correct movement does. We want to see good mechanics you can impress later.
